![]() While the story is a bit recycled and the themes and motifs are shoved in your face, it’s still fascinating in this steampunk environment before they were plunged into World Wars. It’s also nice to see a Victorian/Industrial England that isn’t just gray and drab it provides more variety in color and shows off the beauty in these grand machines. This leads to some wonderful and grand action scenes, one right after the other with explosions, wild angles, and flying. The CGI is amazingly integrated in, the English scenery is beautiful, the machines are amazingly detailed and massive, and the characters have great Otomo-fluid expressions and movement. Like I said in the intro, the animation is damn impressive and worth the years it spent in production. And Ray is stuck in a family power struggle between his father and grandfather as they each believe the Steam Ball should be used for different purposes, and more inventors in London seek the power for their own gains. Edward Steam, as he learns what the Steam Ball will be for with inventions of tremendous power. Along the way, he reunites with his father, Dr. Ray soon finds himself on the run with the Steam Ball to keep it from a suspicious organization’s hands. ![]() Lloyd Steam, which contains a powerful device known as a Steam Ball which has a near limitless amount of energy to power any machine with steam. One day, he receives a package from his grandfather, Dr. Right at the turn of the century in Victorian England, a young boy named Ray Steam aspires to be a great inventor like his father and grandfather, both of which are constantly away for work. From the animation alone, that hard work definitely paid off to make it look as great as it does. ![]() This was one of the most ambitious films to come out of Japan with it being incredibly expensive and spending 10 years in production with more than 180,000 drawings and 440 CG cuts. ![]() Katsuhiro Otomo, the same great mind behind Akira, is back at again with his second major anime film release Steamboy. **Reposted from my Tumblr, elizas-writing, as of December 6th, 2018** ![]()
